Which camera works best

Cycladat lines your ride data up with a video using the time the video was filmed. So the best camera for Cycladat is the one that gets that time right. Ranked:

1. Your phone

Android or iOS, doesn’t matter. A phone camera, with the original, unedited video, works best every time. The phone always knows the time, and the video carries it. Import the file and the data lands on the footage with nothing for you to do.

The “original, unedited” part is the whole trick. Trim or crop the clip in your phone’s gallery first and the edited copy no longer knows when it was filmed. Do your trimming inside Cycladat instead: trim in Cycladat, not on your phone.

2. Ray-Ban Meta glasses

Tested and verified. Import the clip the Meta app hands to your phone and it matches.

3. GoPro

Not bad. Set the time in the camera, or open the Quik app with the camera connected, before you ride, and the match will be right. Leave it a month and expect to nudge the data a few seconds on the elevation strip.

4. Insta360

Almost always wrong, and not something we can correct. The footage is fine to use, but you’ll be lining the data up by hand every time. Cycladat warns you when it sees an Insta360 file. Insta360 videos has the fastest way to do it.

Everything else

DJI, Sony, dashcams, drones, a borrowed camera: usually fine if the clock was set. If the data’s off, swipe up and slide it along the ride: my data doesn’t line up with the video.
